Gi.Metal’s First 40 Years: Listening, Innovation and a Love for Pizza

Gi.Metal’s First 40 Years: Listening, Innovation and a Love for Pizza

In 2026, Gi.Metal celebrates an important milestone: 40 years alongside pizza professionals around the world. A journey that has always been guided by three core values: listening to pizzaiolos, responding to market needs through new technologies, and making continuous investments in research and development.

From Marco D’Annibale’s Insight to the International Market

Gi.Metal’s story began in 1986 with an insight by CEO Marco D’Annibale: addressing a real need expressed by pizzaiolos. At a time when pizza peels were still handcrafted, the idea emerged to design tools based on technical, functional and reliable criteria. The company started its journey with gradual growth, expertise and vision. From its first steps in a garage in Agliana, to a workshop in Montemurlo, Gi.Metal evolved into a structured industrial reality, capable of meeting the demands of an ever-changing international market. In 2015, Gi.Metal moved to its current headquarters in Montale (Pistoia), which was expanded in 2019 to reach a warehouse area of 8,000 sqm. Today, the facility also hosts the Palapizza area, dedicated to hospitality, training and product testing. At the same time, Gi.Metal strengthened its international presence by opening two branches: Chicago (USA) in 2004 and Curitiba (Brazil) in 2011, relocated to São Paulo in 2025.

Perforation: A Turning Point for the Industry

1998 marked a major turning point with the introduction of perforation on the peel head: an innovation that improves dough handling, reduces friction and prevents burning, quickly becoming a distinctive feature of the brand. During the same period, Azzurra was launched, Gi.Metal’s most iconic line. In the following years, the catalogue expanded with Gold and Carbon, broadening the range to meet increasingly specific professional needs. Evoluzione was later introduced, featuring the new bi-dimensional perforation, a technical solution that set a new benchmark and was subsequently extended to the Carbon and Gold lines. The catalogue continued to grow with tools dedicated to gluten-free pizza, contemporary pizza, pizza al metro and pinsa romana, up to the most recent launches of Napoli and WoodTech.

Delivery and Homemade Pizza: New Frontiers

In 2020, Gi.Metal’s know-how entered the home environment with Linea Amica: high-quality tools designed for all enthusiasts who love making pizza at home. And the journey didn’t stop there. In 2021, Gi.Metal entered the delivery sector with REDBOX, the heated box designed to keep pizza hot and fragrant during delivery. This project evolved in 2025 with I-REDBOX, a version that not only maintains the ideal temperature but also offers customization and data collection features.

Looking to the Future

From 1986 to today, Gi.Metal’s story tells of a company capable of transforming a simple yet essential insight into a successful project, using innovation to improve the work of pizzaiolos. An international journey with strong roots in Tuscany, built thanks to the commitment of the people behind it. Forty years represent a key milestone in a path that continues to look to the future, guided by the same values.
